In this context, the need to strengthen international humanitarian law was stressed in order to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The British parliamentarians also welcomed the end of the conflict and expressed hope that negotiations involving all interested parties in the region would lead to a complete normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Along with this, the statement notes the presence in the post-conflict period of such issues as the clearance of territories from mines, the restoration of transport and communication links, the delimitation and demarcation of borders, and calls on the British government to resolve them, especially in the issue of clearing territories from mines.
Recall that this statement is the first joint initiative of the British parliamentarians regarding the Khojaly tragedy. This initiative was joined by members of the House of Commons of the British Parliament Bob Blackman, Bob Seeley, Matthew Offord, Dan Poulter, as well as members of the House of Lords Lord Risby, Lord Sheikh, Lord Kilkluny, Lord Hussain, Lord Evans, Baroness Manzur and Lord Flyte.
