An event took place at the State Administration Academy (SAA), with participation of the academic community, within the framework of the international campaign “Justice for Khojaly”, launched on 8 May 2008, following the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, a chief coordinator of the Islamic Cooperation Organization’s Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation, February 18.
With a view to increasing efficiency of agitation works being carried out by state entities and public organizations and strengthening coordination of these works, “Justice for Khojaly” International Campaign Public Union arranges presentations devoted to the Khojaly genocide at state entities, youth organizations, and higher education establishments.
At the event held at SAA, information was given about events held in various countries within the framework of the international campaign “Justice for Khojaly”, and works carried out towards promoting the Khojaly genocide throughout the world. It was noted that, thanks to the campaign’s activity, parliaments of a number of countries have recognized the Khojaly events as a genocide and condemned Armenia’s aggression against Azerbaijan.
SAA rector Urkhan Alakbarov said public unions play a significant role, along with state entities, in providing the world society with information about the Khojaly genocide. “The Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s activity towards raising worldwide awareness of the Khojaly genocide is of special importance. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation has provided matchless services towards conveying the true facts about Azerbaijan to the world”, said U.Alakbarov.
According to U.Alakbarov, this campaign aims to not only inform the international community of the Khojaly tragedy, but also prevent similar events from happening in the world.
A documentary devoted to the Khojaly tragedy was demonstrated at the event, made with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
Information was also given about the works done towards seeking political and legal assessment of the Khojaly Genocide on an international scale, as well as various agitation and enlightening materials. It was noted that a website of the “Justice for Khojaly” international campaign, with a resource basis containing detailed information about the tragedy, will be launched in the near future. The website will play a role of an interactive platform allowing internet users, including the youth, to participate in the campaign process. Everyone, in addition to joining the international campaign “Justice for Khojaly” as a volunteer, can also take active part in different actions to be carried out via this website.
